You really need to book as the place packs out quickly, especially on
Thursday Trivia Night. The beautiful Ms Carr and I arrived around 7 pm
and most tables in and out were taken. Gorgeous Graeme Stockdale was
too busy to notice me as he pumped out meal after meal from his
wonderful menu, from which I chose the Spanner Crab Linguine and
Chryss the Ballina Salt&Pepper Squid. She pronounced hers a little on
the bland side although the squid I sampled was tender as can be; my
pasta dish was fantastic, spiky with chilli and lots of lemon and a
good EV olive oil and seamed with rocket and generous little nuggets
of sweet crab meat. An excellent dish, as to be sure were the mussels
we shared first up which reared out of a fabulous broth fragrant with
coriander, lemongrass and chilli. We helped a table of young spunks
with answers to some of the Trivia questions, drank a respectable
merlot and melted away into the night an hour or so later. A glorious
country pub worth seeking out in the picturesque little village of
Eltham!
